Demand forecasting for the European operations of Revlon International is carried out at the London office. The statistical forecasting methods in Procast are used to create a draft forecast for each country and this is made available for the sales teams to review in Outlook. Sales managers make any necessary amendments and send the revised forecasts back to centre, where they are consolidated and examined before being sent to BPCS for the MRP process. Detailed promotional planning for the European market is an integral part of the system.
This medium sized company successfully produces a wide range of food ingredients and flavours for retail, foodservice and industrial markets, sourcing raw materials from all over the world. The initial forecast is made in Procast, then sent to sales managers for review using Outlook. The resulting forecast is sent to SAP R/3 for purchase and production planning. The extensive graphics and reporting capability in Procast is heavily used, to the extent that a more detailed database has been established for the purpose of sales analysis and reporting.
At Twinings a Procast database is used as the administrative hub for managing the demand forecasting process for approximately 80 countries. The responsibility for forecasting volume and price is firmly devolved to market managers and planners who use the Outlook and Procast Powerview interfaces to handle the forecast. In order to streamline file exchange procedures and software installation for the considerable number of users, the software has been enabled for the internet using Citrix software. In this way the main software and the files are all located on a server at head office, each user PC only needing a Citrix Extranet Client installation to access them. The forecast is regularly sent to MFG/PRO for production planning.
This company manufactures around 2,000 products for the building industry, ranging from very fast moving to very slow moving. The products are made in two factories and distributed through four depots. Great reliance is placed on the automatic procedures in Procast for the preparation of the forecast and the optional planning module is used for stock planning across the distribution network. The monthly forecast is split into weeks and exception monitoring is carried out to identify short-term problems. Opening stocks and supply commitments are then pulled in to assist in the calculation of a master production schedule for each factory and stock replenishment plans for the four depots. Cube
